England second behind Australia in 4x100m medley Scotland win silver in women’s 4x100m medley relay After six days of Australian dominance in the pool, the swimming programme at Glasgow 2026 came to a close in familiar fashion as the green and gold claimed one final victory after finishing with an extraordinary 37 gold, 16 silver and 23 bronze medals in the water.
The closing race also produced a slice of Commonwealth Games history as South Africa’s bronze in the men’s 4x100m medley relay earned Chad le Clos a record-breaking 21st Commonwealth Games medal, making him the most decorated athlete in the competition’s history.
Adam Ramsay-Peaty, meanwhile, bowed out of the Games with a silver medal after England finished runners-up to Australia in the final swimming event.
Australia surged through the second half of the race to secure gold in a Games record of 3min 28.71sec, while England’s quartet of Oliver Morgan, Ramsay-Peaty, Edward Mildred and Jacob Mills claimed silver in 3:30.68 after holding off South Africa.
